Design the inaugural cover for Geodata and AI, an international journal exploring the role of machine learning in advancing geoscientific research. The cover needed to communicate the convergence of geography and technology while remaining visually distinctive within the context of academic publishing.

Rather than illustrating artificial intelligence through familiar technological imagery, the concept sought to express its transformative potential through the monumental qualities of the natural world. Towering mountain ranges and surging waves became visual metaphors for vast datasets and interconnected data nodes, framing AI not as a replacement for nature, but as a powerful tool for uncovering new insights from it.
The final illustration combined dramatic geological landscapes with abstract technological forms to create a cover that balanced scientific credibility with visual intrigue. By translating complex research themes into an accessible visual narrative, the design established a distinctive identity for the journal while communicating the relationship between geospatial data and machine learning.
