Religious Iconography in Buddhist Books

Personal projectThis project documents the religious iconography present in freely available Buddhist literature. Often overlooked, these books typically feature the same visual strategies; gradients, blue skies and repeated imagery of lotuses are some to name a few. By scanning these recurring motifs, this project collects and showcases the shared identity in a book format reminiscent of these Buddhist literature.

This book is for sale at the Singapore Art Book Fair 2024 and in selected stores in New York.

Scope

Publication design
The cover of the book adopts the gradients and outer glow effects that are commonly seen in such books.
Designed with 4 chapters, the publication’s objective is to offer an understanding on some of the recurring motifs of Buddhism.
Prayer cards are often found attached to these books, allowing the readers to carry it along or pass to another—for blessings and peace.

A sticker sheet was scrapped as it did not suit the cultural context of the project.
